Frequently Asked Questions of Sample Precision Cutter
The ProPress swatch-cutting machine can cut fabric, leather, and plastic. It can also cut other flexible sheet materials. It makes test samples for tests for formaldehyde, pH, azo dyes, and heavy metals. It works well for most flexible materials up to a certain thickness. It handles cotton, polyester, wool, silk, linen, and viscose/rayon fabric samples. It tests them for physical and chemical needs. Leather and vinyl plastics are also cuttable. Please inquire for specifications on any unique materials requiring cut test specimens.
The ProPress sample cutter can cut sample sizes of 5×5 mm or 10×10 mm. You can also get custom sizes. They are based on the client’s testing needs. They usually range from 3×3 mm to 20×20 mm. The operator quickly changes the cutting dies. They need to fit standard dimensions or special sizes. These are for specific test methods. We have a library of standard die sizes and layouts. Or, we can make fully custom dies for customers. These dies will match their test parameters and equipment. And we also provide GSM cutters.
The ProPress fabric sample cutting machine can cut each sample in just a few seconds. Manual cutting takes at least 60 seconds. This makes preparing the 20, 50, or even 100 test specimens much faster. Textile quality assurance often requires them. The ProPress Precision Cutter saves time in the lab. It has automated, precise, and fast operation.
The ProPress fabric sample cutting machine utilizes a pressing method with optimized pressure control rather than unreliable manual cutting with scissors or a razor. Computer-controlled pressure regulation, accurate force distribution, and rigid dies with micro-precision tolerances result in highly consistent sample shapes and sizes within +/- 0.1mm. This leads to more precise, repeatable testing and reliable final results, avoiding deviations caused by uneven hand-cut specimens.
The ProPress fabric sample cutting machine uses a pressing method. It has optimized pressure control. This is unlike the unreliable manual cutting with scissors or a razor. The machine regulates the pressure. It uses rigid dies. The dies have micro-precision tolerances. This setup makes the machine produce samples. The samples have consistent shapes and sizes. They are within +/- 0.1mm. This leads to more precise, repeatable testing. It gives reliable results and avoids deviations from hand-cut specimens.
Yes, the ProPress Fabric Sample Cutter has automated plate entry and exit. It has pressure control to cut evenly at multiple locations. It has an adjustable stroke depth. It also has a self-cleaning system to remove debris between cuts. It also has sensors that require two-hand operation for user safety. This automation makes it easy to cut many copies quickly. It avoids the need for constant operator adjustments.
Strong blasts of air blow away any leftover fibers or debris after each sample is cut. This prevents sample contamination or mixing of the cut pieces. The needles are hollow. They deliver jets across the cutting surface from many angles. This clears particulates well. There is also a built-in, high-resolution camera. It has magnification to observe the plate area and remove all residue. This is before the next test fabric is loaded for cutting samples.
It has infrared light barriers around the cutting area. They detect hands or fingers. If anything is seen, they stop the operation. This prevents accidental contact with the moving parts inside. You also need to use two hands to press the activation buttons. This makes the cutting motion intentional and prevents unintended cycling. The tabletop footprint has smooth corners and edges to prevent external impact injuries. An emergency stop button provides instant power cutoff.
The sample size and shape are highly consistent. That will help produce exact and reliable pH test results. More sample dissolution that affects readings is needed compared to uneven hand-cut pieces. Cut each sample at the same pressure. This makes replicates with nearly the same exposure and reaction. Overall, pH testing accuracy improves by 8-12%. This is due to the precision and repeatability of ProPress samples.
The ProPress Fabric Sample Cutter needs a standard electrical outlet. The outlet must match the voltage/frequency for the region. Some bench anchoring may be needed if the table/workbench surface is uneven. You don’t need external compressed air, water cooling, or exhaust vents. But, you should use a small fume hood. It’s for any gases released by test specimens during cutting. It is also compatible with standard lab benches.
You just need to clean them sometimes. Also, you must often replace the cutting dies and foam pads. The dies may wear out after approximately 15,000 cycles, depending on hardness. You must replace the blades to keep them sharp. You may also need to oil the linear stages, leadscrews, and guide rods. Use light machine oil. Do this every 4-6 months. This prevents binding and keeps the motion smooth. You should inspect and change mount bolts and sensors. Engineers designed the device to be reliable and have modest maintenance needs.
If you use it right and follow maintenance rules, its average lifespan is 8-10 years. That’s about 500,000 cutting cycles. The steel cutting dies and foam pads wear faster with high usage. You must replace them every ~15,000 cuts to keep the samples good. Other parts, like seals, sensors, and switches, may also age. However, the product lasts for decades before needing major overhauls. This reflects the stringent durability testing performed on the ProPress cloth sample-cutting machine.
Yes, you can order common replacement items. These include cutting dies and foam holders. They also include blades and ring lights for lighting. They have tools for calibration and warning labels. The ProPress sample punch and cutter is servo motor driven. The servomotor enables setting the sample cutting position and the pressure value.
Position Setting: The controller sets the cutting position. The servomotor moves the punch to it as commanded.
Pressure setting: The controller sets the punching pressure. The servomotor adjusts the pressure in real time during punching. This ensures even and proper pressure.
After the machine starts, the servo motor drives the punch down. It presses the die into the material to cut it. And it ensures the precision and quality of the cut. The punch reaches the set pressure and position. Then, it stops moving down and returns to the start after finishing the cut. At this time, the cut sample can be collected.
Sample Preparation.
Select the textile material to be cut. It may be fabric, nonwoven, or other textile.
The textile to be cut is placed flat on the machine’s table. Make sure it has no wrinkles or creases.
Die Selection and Setup.
Die Selection: Choose the right punching die. Do it based on the shape and size of the sample to be cut. The shape of the die can be round, square or other specific shapes.
Attach the die to the punch or punch plate of the punching machine. Make sure the die is secure and in the right spot.
Change of pressure and position.
Adjust the pressure setting of the punching machine. Do it based on the thickness and hardness of the material. Thicker or harder materials need a higher punching pressure.
Adjust the Position. Ensure that the die is aligned with the material to be cut. Use devices or lines to aid alignment if needed.
Starting the Punching Process: Start the machine.
Starting the machine makes the punch or plate move down. It applies pressure, pressing the die into the material to be cut.
Finish cutting. Hold the pressure briefly. Then, release it and return the punch or plate to its original position.
Sample Removal.
Remove the cut textile sample from the die. Check the shape and edges. Look for neatness.
Clean the Die. If there is debris or residue when cutting, the die can be cleaned. This will ensure the quality of the next cut.

Main Operation Steps (You can view the whole steps in our Manual)
The steps are rough. First, prepare the specimen. It should be at least 100 100mm, but no more than 150 150mm square.
Turn on the device, and after opening, it automatically resets and is in the state of pending use.
Put the specimen on the white tray. Then, click the two buttons at the same time. The tray enters the equipment and punching and cutting begin.
Cutting complete, the tray ejects, allowing unrestricted removal.
If a dangerous situation occurs, press the emergency stop button. This will stop the equipment and cut the power.
During use, press either of the two start buttons to stop all movements of the unit, and then reset the operation.
For all cutter movements, the white pallet must be in the correct position within the machine. If the pallet isn’t placed right, the cutter will not lift or lower.
When the cutter needs maintenance or replacement, remove and reinstall it. Then, power off and restart the equipment to perform the automatic reset.
During operation, if you put your hand or other objects through the entrance by accident, laser sensors on both sides will detect them. The sensors will automatically stop all actions to keep the operation safe. Then, you need to reset manually in the main interface to continue.
